New Zealand's Tall Ship Cruises the Pacific
The South Pacific based brigantine Soren Larsen works from her home port of Auckland during Dec-March and departs for deep ocean voyaging and tropical Pacific cruising March to November.
Soren Larsen specialises in adventure sail training cruises in the tropical islands of the South Pacific and New Zealand’s Hauraki Gulf and the Bay of Islands - for people of all ages.
Built as a Baltic Trader in 1949 this oak hulled ship was restored with a brigantine rig in 1978 and during the 80’s developed the foremost programme for adventure sailing for adults. As flagship for the First Fleet Re-Enactment voyage she led the Fleet in to Sydney on Australia Day in 1988 and subsequently based her operations from NZ.
In 1991 she rounded Cape Horn, in company with Eye of the Wind, on the first of 2 circumnavigations. Her programme now aims to seek out the hidden Pacific - sailing the tradewinds to find the remoter islands and communities of Polynesia and Melanesia.
In March she departs for a Southern Ocean passage to Easter Island, then Pitcairn and Tahiti and can run Offshore Navigation courses aboard. From Tahiti she sails west on a series of voyages across the heart of Polynesia to Samoa, Fiji and into the untouched beauty and undisturbed culture of the islands of Vanuatu.
Pearls of the Pacific
From April 2009 Tallship Soren Larsen will undertake a series of voyages to the very best of the tropical South Seas.
A true ocean passage takes us from Auckland to Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. From there we sail north and west on a series of voyages across the best of Polynesia, to the remote northern Cooks, Robert Louis Stevenson’s Samoa and colourful Fiji. We explore the wild untouched beauty and undisturbed culture of the islands of Vanuatu, and the classical South Sea beauty of New Caledonia.
An authentic square rig passage to Sydney Harbour or a trans Tasman voyage home to New Zealand is a blue water sailing adventure at its best.
