Historic Tall Ship Southern Swan
Built in 1922 in Denmark of Danish oak frames, the Southern Swan (then the Svanen) traded as a grain carrier between Denmark and Greenland for the Tuborg Beer Company until 1969. She was purchased in 1969 as a private vessel and extensively refitted to make extensive ocean voyages, including service as a sail trainng vessel with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets.
As Svanen, she participated in the 1982 Tall Ships Race from Philadelphia to Portugal. In 1986 after appearing at the World Expo in Vancouver, Svanen sailed to England to join the Australian Bicentenuial First Fleet Re-Enactment for the historic voyage to Sydney.
Throughout the year, Southern Swan offers the opportunity to experience the wonders of sailing a wooden tall ship voyages and adventures.
Sydney Harbour Tall Ships. (crew photo opposite) specialises in catering for corporate and private functions including BBQ days, weddings and other special events. Up to 100 guests can be on board for cocktails and buffet cruises.
Throughout the year Svanen runs a number of Sail Training/Team Building courses over three days. Features of the program include ship safety drills, sail setting and communication, helm handling, navigation and watch handovers, tacking and wearing the ship under sail and teamworking.
