Volunteers needed to crew Rainbow Gypsy
Rainbow Gypsy is a replica of a 1897 Scottish sailing trawler with 15.3 LWL, a 4.9 meter beam, weighing 32 ton, carries 382 sq.m. of sail with a gay leash ketch rig which has few mechanical aids. She was launched in 1999.
The traditional rig requires a high level of fitness from all her crew. There's a modern galley providing three wholesome meals a day. There are nine bunks, master cabin head, shower and laundry area.
Rainbow Gypsy is sponsored by Timex Sports. The vessel has completed three trips to the Solomon Islands, Bank Group, Tores Group and Vanuatu. Working closely with Global Car, the master and crew have delivered 9.5 ton of medical, educational, clothing and other aid to many islands.
The annual voyage departs from Bundaberg's Burnett Heads marina on a 45-day round trip which includes traditional sail training, swimming, surfing and deep water fishing. Volunteer crew should all be willing, fit and able to cope with the challenges and adventures the high seas may bring.
