Newcastle - Beach Days...Harbour Sights...City Nights

Located an easy two hours drive from Sydney (see map), Newcastle is a modern beachside city boasting a spectacular coastline, a rich Aboriginal and European heritage and fabulous weather.

Newcastle boasts some of Australia’s best surfing beaches and these have proved a fertile breeding ground for several world champions - among them, Mark Richards, Matt Hoy and Luke Egan. Enjoy a surf at Merewether, Dixon Park or Bar Beach and you may find yourself sharing a wave with one of our champions who still call Newcastle home.

Newcastle’s spectacular coastline and pristine beaches have been celebrated with the creation of the Bathers Way, a five kilometre coastal walk that starts at Nobbys and finishes at Merewether Beach. Experiencing the remarkable Bathers Way should be a "must" during any visit to Newcastle.

The Harbour Foreshore has undergone stunning changes in recent years and is now a focal point for recreation in the Hunter. A place where children can be entertained and adults can enjoy a relaxing drink or dine at a fine restaurant with unsurpassed views of an active harbour playground.

Take time to visit the city’s three main ‘eat streets’ – cosmopolitan Beaumont Street, Darby Street and The Junction. These precincts offer something to suit every palate.
