Intute online takes Maritime World on board.
Intute is a free online service that helps students to find descriptions and links to the best web resources for their studies and research. With millions of resources available on the Internet, it can be difficult to find useful material. Intute subject specialists review and evaluate thousands of resources to help you choose the key websites in your subject.
An entry supplied by the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich says: Australia's Maritime World web site contains articles contributed by enthusiasts and academics, including the Manuscripts Curator of the State Library of New South Wales, on the unique nature of Australia's and New Zealand's maritime history and experience.
The website contains information on wooden, sailing ships, on navigation aids and charts, on cruising, yachting and boating, on lighthouses, on maritime museums and much more. Each entry has a short essay, and a picture, presenting information on the topic.
The website presents a great deal of information on this interesting and lively topic - Australia, being the world's largest island/smallest continent has a varied and interesting maritime history, and this website aims to explore that.
Intute is created by a consortium of seven universities, working together with a whole host of partners. The Intute consortium is:
University of Birmingham University of Bristol Heriot-Watt University The University of Manchester Manchester Metropolitan University University of Nottingham University of Oxford
Intute is funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC).
